Seeing results
Once Sudden is live, you will want to confirm that it is actually reducing your video delivery costs.
This page focuses on what to look for, not on how Sudden is built internally.
Quick smoke test
Before looking at impact, make sure Sudden is active at all:
Deploy to a test page
Deploy Sudden to a staging or test page that plays an HLS video-on-demand stream.
Open the page in two places
Open that page in two different browsers or devices at the same time.
Confirm playback and Sudden activity
- The video plays as usual.
- In the browser Network tab, you should see video requests being handled through the service worker.
If everything behaves exactly as before, that is expected: Sudden is designed to stay invisible to viewers.
What “good” looks like
When Sudden has enough viewers to work with, you should eventually see:
- A portion of video traffic no longer coming directly from your CDN.
- Stable startup and buffering behavior compared to your baseline.
- More savings on popular content (hit shows, premieres, frequently watched clips).
How to measure impact
Customers usually validate Sudden in two ways: by comparing their own CDN metrics over time, and by reviewing usage reports shared by the Sudden team.
- Your CDN metrics – compare delivery on pages or titles where Sudden is enabled against your usual baseline.
- Sudden usage reports – review metrics such as offload percentage and the amount of traffic handled by Sudden.
When numbers look lower than expected
If your offload or savings seem low, check:
- Audience size and overlap – Sudden helps most when multiple people watch the same content around the same time.
- Placement – ensure the Sudden script is present on all relevant pages, not just a subset.
- Browser mix – older or unusual browsers may not be able to run Sudden and will fall back to your CDN.
Remember that Sudden does not increase your delivery costs. In the worst case, viewers simply use your regular CDN path as they did before.
Working with your Sudden contact
For real-world rollouts, share:
- Which properties or apps Sudden is enabled on.
- Approximate audience size and traffic patterns (for example “evening primetime in Europe”).
Your Sudden contact can help you understand the results in your usage reports.
